Does Metatron have his own hit man now?

The more I visualize this man, the more I dislike him and wonder what he’s really all about. I have had my suspicions very early on and we agreed that he was up to no good. I have to give it to the guy he’s such a professional actor, and if I were his second in command I would believe every word he was telling me.  Metatron how on the face of it he can worm his way into someones affections, get them to do exactly what he wants, and basically win every time. Doesn’t someone stand up to him and rebel and say ‘No’ why should I take orders from you or join you……

Already the crafty swine had won Gadreel over by getting him out of prison by working a spell to banish the general angels and bad guys as well from imprisonment. So he must have some amazing spell knowledge locked away in that head of his. Or had he actually kicked Gadreel out, before he performed the angel spell. He knew who the angel was in Sam before Sam even opened his mouth so he’d already done his home work. Had this been his plan all along that he banished angels to do his dirty work and kill random humans that got in his way? He was so sure it was Gadreel and had come to earth especially to met with him. So why go to all this trouble?

Gadreel was even more stupid than I thought he ever was to go with Metatron in the first place, let alone agree to do his bidding. I thought that inhabiting Sam for so long would have taught him one thing, that Sam wouldn’t take lightly to killing humans of any kind, good or bad. So having to go back and kill Kevin will be bad enough later for Sam to bare. Now here comes to my thought, once I saw Gadreel kill Kevin in cold blood and burn his poor eyes out, I still continue to wonder if Sam is on Metatron’s hit list. As Gadreel commented on Sam the vessel and how mashed up he is. Metatron mentioned he could sort this out. So I wonder if Sam will be his next victim? Gadreel did say to Dean that Sam was dead but we all feel the same I hope that he was bluffing, right! Metatron obviously has a list of bodies that he wants Gadreel to take care of, so who do we think will be his next target. In the promo it may not get that far as Dean has Sam back in the bunker .

So is Metatron an evil piece of work, out for his own gain and power. He’s now lonely in heaven organizing certain angel clientele to come up stairs with him, so what else do we think he’s up to and capable of?  Does he really give a rats ass about anybody but himself. He even said that humans were full of emotion so he probably has little or no feelings what so ever. As corrupt angels go, he’s manipulative, headstrong and driven. So now he has heaven in his power and control, who’s going to smite and get rid of him? Any thoughts …. So I wasn’t far off the mark when I said that Gadreel might be working for Metatron, I was just a tad early, and now he is ….. R.I.P. Kevin!!

  1. IMO I find Gadzook as the Angel that sits on the fence. I don’t see him as having to much use for any Angel, no matter their affiliation or faction. I think he doesn’t like them for never showing him a ounce of forgiveness, for IMHO a crime he had no control of or the know how to stop from happening. I think he has a major beef with his Angelic brethren for leaving him in prison, forgetting him in there and throwing away the key. I also think he hasn’t enough Human contact or interaction with us in general to really form an opinion of us or the race in general. As we have found out he has been in Angelic prison for many many millennia for the crime of letting the serpent in Eden. I think the only reason he’s working for Meta-booger is out of some sort of gratitude for a second chance to prove himself as Good, who can be trusted and not some sort of escaped prisoner that will be shot or stabbed on sight. As I believe was his whole issue with Human Cas living at the bunker, thinking he will be found or somehow sensed by him, outed and made to leave or killed before he had a chance to prove himself. I have never trusted or liked Metatron since he has been introduced mainly because he just seemed to be very sleazy, slovenly and dirty, & by dirty I mean he isn’t clean shaven, he’s unkempt and dresses as if he is a wretched, crotchety old man. If appearances were taken on face value he looks more human, than a being that has a power of angelic grace.
I’ve always seen Metatron as more human than angel. Just by his body language and very demeanor. He’s very bull-dozy, and in many ways more like Crowley than Cas and Gadreel. We know when we are viewing an angel, by the way they act. I still have my suspicions about Metatron that he also isn’t whom he says he is. I love your analogy of Gadreel, and I think you are spot on in how you’ve put it across. 😉 I think whom ever imprisoned Gadreel were very harsh. Yes the serpent could have been dangerous to others. But to be imprisoned for so long seems a bit mean. He hadn’t killed anyone or, performed worse acts of considerable shame to angels. He fell asleep. At worst I would have sentenced him to a couple of years. I also think Metatron released Gadreel for a reason, not just to be his second in command, he wouldn’t go to all this trouble there is something else going on.

Also for being One out of ONLY FOUR angels in all of creation that actually met and spoke to God the Almighty Father, he doesn’t act or represent himself as such a being. He certainly doesn’t act like he met such a powerful and omnipotent being. You would think he would have been just a bit frightened to even consider being The God or X as he put it, of Heaven.
No, I am with you there. Just by his very appearance the way he dresses, and how he carries himself isn’t very angelic and business like as we see most angels are in business attire, tailored suits and so on. So he really doesn’t fit angel mode very well IMO …

Most of the angels and certainly the Archangels (Michael, Raphael, Gabriel and even Lucifer) believed that God was still out there somewhere, and will one day come back. Sort of Business as usual, and pick up where ever he left off, like nothing was wrong with disappearing or that nothing has changed. Something tells me he isn’t really who he claims to be and really one of the Fallen. Maybe that’s why he just seems to be so sleazy or demonic.
I often wonder why he actually left? was he so disgusted in the way his beings had behaved and was so ashamed of them all? I still think Metatron is very much more like Crowley, in his behavior and his very cunning and manipulative ways he gets people to side with him. I think he’s definitely more demonic than angelic. Which would see him in a very different light. To me his general way doesn’t fit with current angels, even Malachi who is evil through and through is very different from Metatron. Metatron knows what he wants, and just goes for it no matter who, or what gets in his way which again reminds me of Crowley!!

    1. I know Naomi said he was Metatron, but she certainly has been wrong before. She was certainly wrong in thinking she had total control of Cas when she thought she had him under her thumb, by killing Dean and getting the angel tablet. I think she got what she needed out of Booger picker, flashed down to stop Cas and Dean from continuing the trials and flashed back to Heaven to finish interrogating him. Unfortunately for her she didn’t put her toys away before she left and paid for it.
I actually liked Naomi, even though she got up to nasty tricks. I still think as you Metatron is hiding something about who he really is. There was something when I think back to Sam when he first met Metatron, and he was resonating. Sam had that hunch about were he was living and that he was a recluse that he’d ducked and dived out of angels ways. So I bet he’s just like Gadreel mis leading us. Yeah, but I wonder who will finish Metatron off, cause he has to come to a similar sticky end, doesn’t he?

    2. Gadreel has been isolated for so long that he lacks the ability to interact well- listen to his speech pattern – it is stilted and slow and lacks a connectivity that other angels seem to have when they speak to each other or humans, even Cas does better now. It appears he makes decisions for what he thinks are good reasons – sounds like Sam a few seasons past – the learning curve with Metatron for all of us has been swift. Not sure how sharp Gadreel is. Lack of exposure. He is easily persuaded by beings that have little regard for mankind. In Dog Dean Afternoon, the line about becoming the thing that possess you has come true, but that doesn’t mean that Sam won’t influence Gadreel.
This was what I was wondering as he appeared to dither and loose sight sometimes of his conversation and it came across as though he was a bit thick. That is very true, as I did wonder and mentioned I think in the passage that if Gadreel learnt one thing from Sam was that he didn’t like to kill anything without good reason. So perhaps Gadreel may begin to show signs of Sam. When you think of the length of time he’s been exposed in Sam I thought more might have poked through. The pair are appearing to be suited to each other. But to me he reminds me of soulless Sam more than the real Sam. He’s calculating, deceitful, kills without remorse almost, and isn’t easily scared. But then you also see bits of the real Sam where he doubts what people tell him. As Ruby did to Sam, also in a similar way.

    3. Metatron is being played so well by Curtis Armstrong I can almost smell how foul he is. Living in such isolation he probably doesn’t clean up too often. He reeks of malevolence and it seeps through the screen.
He is… I wish we had smelly-vision I can feel it wafting across now. I think the casting team got him down to a tee. He’s perfection.

  2. I’m far from convinced that Gadreel is a good guy or a dupe. He’s been lying to Dean from the beginning and played him for a fool. He may be playing Metatron as well. We don’t know what Gadreel’s agenda is. He may or may not have intentionally let the serpent into the Garden. He sure does speak with a forked tongue.
What do Americans mean by dupe. Not used to this word? Yeap I thought the same, this is partly why I’m not convinced he’s on the level. Most angels we’ve met are Dicks any way and up to no good. So I don’t put anything past him. I find him very strange when you think how wise Metatron appears. I sometimes think Gadreel comes across as a bit wired and naive. But he sure is secretive and mysterious. 😉

Dupe means the same as a Fool, Sucker, Patsy, tool, half wit. It’s someone easily led by the nose, deceived or cheated.

Got you, I wasn’t certain. Sometimes I find it so hard to follow what Americans say because of their accents, and I have to go back and re-wind and still don’t pick it up its so annoying as I think you might miss something, thanks! 😉 This is exactly what I think Cas and Gadreel are so I didn’t miss much.

    3. But Gadreel did say Dean would be alright. Given Sam’s conscience about killing before knowing if the thing is evil, (Amy, the rugaroo, the shift shaping dog) clearly Sam is not present when Kevin is killed. When Sam was possessed by Meg way back in the day (Jared did a stunning and scary performance) he killed other hunters and shot Dean and attacked Jo, It is explained that it was not Sam (although part of me says Meg was using Sam’s anger). So we know at some point Sam has to either emerge or be resurrected as Sam and while he will have no recall of killing Kevin, he will feel the pain and the loss, but I suspect it will be handled similarly to what the writers used before… unless…. think of the possibilities.!!!
This is one area this show is good at is actually re-tracing their steps. They do their homework. I agree with you totally here Debbab. I believe too that Meg connected her self with Sam’s anger as this was always his weak spot. She new what buttons to press. If he has feeling and the pain of grief surly he must remember doing the deed. Or did Gadreel remove this part of the act so he wouldn’t no? This year, its so confusing …

    4. IMO, I see Gadreel as a dupe. Metatron really is a sneaky little creature and I think his end game isn’t even anything big. I think what he wants is to be God. Notice his reaction when Gadreel asks him if he can be called God. It was a very false reaction. He wants to remake Heaven to suit himself and be in charge of it. He may have some goal beyond that but first he’s got to lock up Heaven for his own use and Kevin was the key to that. (I wonder where Kevin’s soul went? Did he go to Heaven? Will he meet Bobby or the brother’s other friends there? Will we be revisiting Heaven again?)’
Just like Cas wanted. I keep thinking Kev might not be gone, gone. Even though his eyes were burnt out, which was clearly a clue. But this is Supernatural and the writers could weave him in some where like Heaven if they really wanted too. I would like to think his soul went to heaven as he was a prophet and a good guy. So he’s basically locking up heaven so they other angels can’t get back in? Which is why he’s recruiting certain angels to go in with him. He’s one cruel bastard. I loved his facial expression that he didn’t want to admit to Gadreel that that’s what his intentions were all along.

I think the next name on his list – if there is a list because we only have his word that there is a list and I trust nothing he says – would probably be Cas because that’s the one whose grace was used. But I feel confident that Metatron will get his be queen already things are happening behind his back that he doesn’t know or isn’t paying attention to. And once again you have a big bad underestimating the Winchester’s and Dean’s will to win and protect his brother.
So you can see Cas working alongside Metatron? What about these other factions aren’t they trying to double cross him and get heaven back?

I still don’t see Gadreel as a bad guy. I think once he understands how he’s been used – if he ever understands – I think hell be on board with taking down Metatron or whatever the goal is this season.
Angels have always to me come across a bit dim, not really understanding humans, and what they are capable of. I think at worse just like Cas he’s been easily lead and got caught in the fat. He clearly didn’t want to kill Kevin and you could see Metatron pushing him into tight corners all the time.

Now in episode titled First Born we have the arrival of another Knight of Hell named Cain. He’s the original Cain from the Cain and Abel story and hes the first murderer and he went to Hell and trained the other Knights so he knows Abaddon. He is currently on Earth and retired but comes out of retirement for some reason. I don’t know if he has any relation to Gadreel who once guarded the Garden of Eden. But things are about to get more complicated and I’m hoping that the writers will bring the two stories together of Heaven, Hell Angel’s and Demon’s. That would be pretty cool.
I am looking forward to this one …. I’ve heard of him and seen whom they’ve cast too. He looks a mean guy. So we may even get to see Abaddon again. I wonder if this first born title will include Dean in some way, considering the boys are related to Cain and Abel?

      1. Also so you guys paying attention in the episode The End, the possessed Sam tells Dean that no matter what happens, no matter what decisions he makes they always end up here, in that little backyard with Sam possessed by an angel. Well that 2014 date is coming up and Sam is possessed. (Cue gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair!) Its got a lot of people wondering just how related this particular story line is to the Lucifer story line.
Ikeke I am so SPOOKED that its 2014 next year, and can see why fans think it could be Lucifer. But how if you really think about it have got out. He’s in a cage locked up and in another realm. Also Mark is on another leading show The Tomorrow People now, so he would not be free to come back. Perhaps for a short cameo, but it wouldn’t be much more. I love their thinking though, and that yes Sam has been possessed by an ANGEL! I nearly got my wish didn’t I. 😉

      2. Gadreel is Cain’s father in an old apocryphal text-. Evil and strife introduced to mankind. Gadreel is easily seduced by evil(Metatron). So was Cas. This whole flashback to Joshua tending the garden in Dark Side of the Moon just buzzed through my mind. Isn’t the Winchester brothers’ favorite heaven in a Botanical garden in Cincinnati? Wasn’t Sam wandering around a garden/forest in the premiere this year? In “The End” Sam possessed by Lucifer meets Dean in a garden. Pause. Guess the writers are going back to biblical roots. For me at times I remember part of the story of the Winchesters an allegory for how mankind has to struggle against evil since it was introduced in the garden? it always comes back to the blood lines. Ah this hiatus gives too much time for thoughts. As we approach 2014 the Winchesters have taken care of the Croatoan virus, but angels in vessels wandering on Earth – pretty nasty?
This was the first thing I noticed that Gadreel and Cas are similar in the fact that they are gullible, and so easily lead, considering how long Cas had watched over humans. To me he appeared slow in picking up basic instincts. We could do with an article from you debbab this would be a really good choice 😉 There is something so spooky about it being 2014 this season. I wonder what the writers will do to commemorate it. I hope they don’t push it to one side. The blood lines are so important to angels and have enjoyed how they have incorporated this a lot. So Sam and Dean are not just the only important vessels on the planet their must be hundreds.

I’m still on the fence about him. I can’t make my mind up. He appears soft natured one minute, then sly and calculating the next. I feel all over the place with him. I think he’s also taken Dean for a right fool. But I think they will persuade him to work against Metatron and bring the big bad down. They have too. 😉

    5. “Gadreel did say to Dean that Sam was dead”
No he said Sam is gone not dead. In other words Gadreel is now in charge of the body but Sam is there alive but not in control. Question is does he know whats being done with his body? If he does is this all going to make things with Dean even worse. UGH

Ah, Right…. I must have missed this bit. But he’s still walking off with Sam as leverage right? So Dean did actually get through to the real Sam in the store cupboard or was this Gadreel? So he’s more or less taken full control of Sam and his mobility/actions. I hope Sam is well enough to kick him out. He will have a hell of a job. I meant to say I did really love the episode this time, I thought these writers considering did a really good job. 🙂
