So has this been Sam’s worst act so far?

I have been dreading finding out what Sam did during those first six months without his brother. Knowing how Sam has been in the past about Dean being missing from his life and the lengths that he would go to, to save Dean. Sam is very regimental in his approach to this touchy subject, and we knew it might involve and innocent life, which in this respect it clearly has. Sam is anxious about finding Dean and bringing him back home whether he dies trying or not. But have those actions harmed someone, has Sam used a person to get information from a demon to find Dean’s location?

Was this really low for Sam to go is the question I’m asking. Has he gone to far this time in honing in on a man who was clearly troubled, and had problems of his own. Who wasn’t in his right frame of mind who had been coursed into something he may not have been compass mentice about? Has Sam condemned an innocent man to hell? Did he really need to do this, in order to trap a demon?

In the end Dean killed an innocent man. So had this act snowballed involving both brothers. And did Leicester really need to be the pawn in all this? Was his sex life and pity something that Sam used in order to get to the meat of his problem? Had Sam completely lost his mind this time? Had he got in too deep and the act had got out of hand. Leicester had really done nothing wrong and I was surprised that he had used an innocent man, when Sam could have used a drug offender or any evil person.

So taking Sam’s feelings into account, how would you have dealt with this if you were Sam? Was it an act of sheer desperation that Sam couldn’t do this any other way. Was this the best way to achieve making contact with a demon. The question on my lips is, will Sam regret this move later on? So do you feel Sam has condemn an innocent life to death at the hands of his brother. Do you think it was a good twist to the story, or do you think the writers got it wrong, and have twisted this to make Sam look bad again, when Dean has done some bad stuff too? Has Sam this time taken away Dean’s Agency and gone against his wishes? Was Sam causing unnecessary suffering when he didn’t really need to?

Drop me a line as usual ……

  1. Lester wanted ‘revenge’ and ‘payback.’ He wanted his wife dead for her cheating ways. It backfired on him big time. Karma is a bitch! Sam will never again be accused of not trying EVERYTHING to get his brother back. (We remember the accusations thrown his way when Dean returned from purgatory.) I am much more concerned about what Dean did while he was a demon, and Dean’s stinging words to Sam about Sam being the cause of much of the death and strife in the Winchester family. Words, with a tinge of truth hurt far deeper than most actions. I don’t think the Sam of present would intentionally hurt innocent people. DEANMON on the other hand????
Eric welcome to the group, always lovely to welcome a new poster.
We never really saw Deanmon develop as a character, which was a real shame. I to get cross with the way Sam’s journey is written. I think Deanmon was pushing buttons and was trying to make Sam bite and throw a punch at him and Sam’s a tough guy and he didn’t flinch. He took it in his stride and laid it on thick to Dean and this time did have the last word. Deanmon was cruel and I remember thinking about the purge lines from Sam thinking that this was a set up for this moment so Dean could throw it back. As the saying goes what goes around, comes around. I think if we’d had DD longer who’s to know how nasty DD could have become towards Sam. He was cold and uncaring and I didn’t enjoy seeing DD shouting it back at Sam. I wanted to punch him. Not the real Dean, he did make my blood boil just a tad!

    1. So far Demon Dean has not killed anyone or anything that was “innocent”Lester was guilty of several deadly sins according to Christian beliefs. Sam miscalculated Lester’s speed at making a deal and sealing it with a kiss. I believe it was all set up by Crowley so Dean could have a “kill” to satisfy the blade. Sam was an untouchable for demons so he had to use a surrogate. Torturing a demon doesn’t rank high as a big bad. It’s been done before by both brothers. The writers have made a point of giving DD violence on others that is justifiable.

I think what was supposed to be so bad about that was that he was torturing the human body that the demon was in.

    2. There are not enough words to like this statement. but I fear Sam’s actions will not be enough to get those haters off his back. Those same people that whine about him not doing enough, will probably complain that he went too far.

  2. As usual. Sam’s intentions are good but we know where they usually lead. In this case, Sam had no intention of letting Lester sell his soul. He just didn’t anticipate that Lester was such a dweeb and would talk faster than Sam could run, especially since Lester couldn’t even read the latin correctly. Sam had no other way to contact a demon other than through a surrogate and I believe he had no intention of letting Lester make the deal. Lester is hardly innocent in wanting to kill his wife- there is a thing called divorce, but he was a greedy s.o.b and didn’t want to lose his money in a divorce settlement. Greed is one of the deadly sins for which you go to Hell, so he was destined there. The point becomes mute, since the wife was not killed so no completion of deal no soul to Hell. In effect what Sam did, set up Lester to be killed by Dean, but the deal became a mute point. So IMHO Sam will come close to crossing the line to save Dean just as Dean crossed it to save Sam. In saving Dean, did Sam take away Dean’s agency? Well, depends if you want to believe that Dean wanted to stay demonized. He was fighting with the choice at the piano when Sam walked in. And to what degree did he accept his demonization or was he in a position to make that choice under the blade and mark’s influence.I still give him a pass on his tactics as far as going to far . Dean has been kept fairly clean as well since he didn’t cross the line until Lester- and that is worthy of debate- but can we hold him responsible if it was not really our Dean? So Sam and Dean will go through their own period of guilt ridden behavior- Dean seems a bit sad in his room and Sam is going to get drunk( b/c he is celebrating or trying to forget his deeds?). Now, that is a role reversal.
Good post debbab, made it much clearer, I did wonder why Lester was going to hell. I thought he’d been cheating as well. So what did piss Dean off for him to stab Lester, remind me again? I think they are both even stevens now and it does annoy me at times when Sam does things for good reasons and they get twisted into something wrong along the way. Like saving Dean this time and doing the right thing, but then is shown making wrong decisions it just gives fuel to those who don’t like Sam is really my point.

  3. I’m going to have to go with maybe there’s some stuff we don’t know about because try as I might, I just do not give enough of a care about Lester for this to matter. It would’ve been different if Sam had sacrificed someone he loved. Especially after all his talk of sacrificing people last season, but c’mon! Lester! I tried to care but I don’t. It doesn’t seem worse than what Dean did to him just during this episode. So maybe there’s other stuff we didn’t see.
But I think it was serious when you think its a human life, when they save lives. So I was sad about Lester even though he’d been cheating too. It true would have been much more closer to home if it had been a loved one. But sadly there are not many of them left. Unless it turned out to be Cas!!

  4. I’m a little confused. This Lester guy was killed by Dean. Sam set Lester up to lure the demon out, clearly with the intention of grabbing the demon before Lester made a deal. The demon acted like she knew Sam was there and sealed the deal with lightning speed, preventing Sam from grabbing her before the deal was made. But again, Dean killed Lester and didn’t complete his deal. Based on past episodes, Crowley is very straight up about deals– no follow through means, ” a complete refund”—-soooo, if Lester went to hell, it was because of something else he did, not because of his deal. I thought it was a pretty mild error in judgement on Sam’s part. I had expected a much worse act and wonder if there is more. Sam and Dean have already done worse things than this! — AB/C
This episode I think was a wired one to get your head around. I think earlier on Debbab was right in her theory. I think the demon knew Sam because Crowley had told all his demons not to answer Sam Winchester’s call. So the demon loyal to her king sticks to her words. I think with the Lester thing I think Lester pissed Dean off if I remember correctly that he found out he’d been cheating too so he knifed Lester. It was a mild error on Sam’s part but he had used a man as bait to get the demon out of hiding, and then Dean ends up killing him. Which is sad as the guy lost his life and the wifey got away with it. I know Sam gets into a state when Dean isn’t around and I guess there is much more to Sam’s unsavory moments which have yet to unfold. I remember thinking about Sam taking an innocents life, and thinking that was bad. But I think we haven’t seen the worst sadly 😦

    1. I agree. It wasn’t so horrible. Unless we don’t know yet EVERYTHING he did.
I agree 100%, I will be surprised if this is it, and they don’t show us any more that went on during those six months. I hope they don’t cut corners.
